I’m not the type to wear a ton of makeup. While I used to wear a full face every day, working from home has kept me from feeling the need to put makeup on daily. My skin is incredibly thankful for this but that still didn’t stop me from checking out Bobbi Brown’s MasterClass on makeup and beauty.
While I’m not the type to love spending time on makeup and wearing it daily, I absolutely love Brown’s makeup philosophy. It’s so natural, easy, and perfect for the everyday (busy!) person.
Who Is Bobbi Brown
Bobbi Brown is a professional makeup artist and the founder of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics (which launched in 1991). Her major philosophy is to focus on natural look makeup and she holds her spot as an industry leader.
Bobbi Brown Cosmetics originally started with ten natural-shade lipsticks and was a response and solution to the red lipstick trend.

Then you’ll learn about making different use makeup bags (daytime, night time and travel) before getting into tutorials that cover everything from workplace makeup to a smoky eye look.

Course Materials
This class comes with a 44-page guidebook. This guidebook is text-heavy and a must-view for students of this MasterClass. This walks you through a lot of the tips and guidance covered in the course and is an excellent way to brush up on skills after you’ve completed the class. It’s obvious in the style of this MasterClass guidebook that this was one of their earlier classes as it is heavy on information and lighter on the design of the book.
What We Liked
There was a lot to love about this MasterClass. I especially loved that tutorials were included and it didn’t just cover theory. Here’s an overview of what I thought this MasterClass did best.
Tutorials Were Included
Step-by-step tutorials were included for a variety of makeup techniques from eyes and brows to applying lip products. You’ll also learn how to apply bronzer, blush, and pick out foundation or tinted moisturizer.
Outside of the basics, Brown covers workplace makeup looks, 1-minute makeup, smoky eye, and moving from a day to night look.
Various Skin Types, Tones, and Ages Were Included
I loved that this MasterClass didn’t feature just one model for every tutorial. She included various skin types, skin tones, and even different ages. This diversity was included in her directions as well as she explained how your technique would change based on your face shape, skin type and tone, eye shape, and more.
Focused on Everyday Wear
I like that this was a very applicable MasterClass that will be useful for everyday use for many people. It focused on everyday wear which I don’t often see represented online in other makeup tutorials. This felt accessible and approachable.
Well Rounded Class
This class was exceptionally well constructed. It began on the history and credentials of Brown before launching into history and working its way into more and more complex tutorials. Each lesson seemed to build on the last and make sense versus jumping around too much.
What We Didn’t Like
There wasn’t much I didn’t like about this MasterClass. However, if you are looking for party, editorial, or bold makeup looks then this MasterClass isn’t going to be a good fit for you.
I also would have liked to have seen more severe skin problems represented. As someone with chronic acne, I wanted to see how to do makeup on my skin while hiding blemishes while not overdoing my face.
How to Get the Most Out of This Class
You’ll want to watch this class in its entirety and reach through the guidebook to get the most out of it. In fact, I’d suggest you follow along with your own makeup as you move through the lessons.
If you only want to learn how to apply makeup then you can skip to the later, tutorial-focused lessons.
Who Is This MasterClass Best For?
This MasterClass is an excellent option for anyone who wants to improve their everyday makeup wear. You’ll learn how to apply makeup and pick up on great tips for getting a look you want no matter where you’re going (on camera, the office, etc.). In fact, for those who have teenagers who may be trying out makeup for the first time, this is a great makeup class with a positive philosophy for makeup that focuses more on enhancing and not covering up perceived imperfections.
This MasterClass is also excellent for those who are aspiring to be makeup artists as Brown provides quite a bit of useful information specific to MUAs.
Who Is This MasterClass Not For?
I think this goes without saying but if you never, and I mean not even occasionally, wear makeup, then you’re not going to get anything out of this course. This is very much a course that is best for those who wear makeup regularly or semi-regularly.

Final Takeaway – 10/10
I’ve been using makeup since I was a young teenager and this MasterClass has helped me improve upon the techniques I’ve used. I particularly enjoyed the knowledge Brown imparted on picking foundation and the focus on face makeup (versus eye or lip makeup).
This MasterClass makes me actually want to try applying makeup more often again as I have really stepped away from doing anything more than mascara and a hint of eyeshadow.
